Buffy started her career in 1976, working in the theatre, assisting designers Ralph Koltai and Stefanos Lazaridis on productions for the Royal Opera House, English National Opera and the Royal Shakespeare Company. She also spent time as a prop maker and model maker for West End theatres, including Sweeney Todd, Bugsy Malone, and A Pack of Lies. In 1982 she joined the BBC where she designed a wide variety of programmes, both studio based and on location. These included light entertainment, children's and educational programmes and major dramas.
Currently, Buffy teaches Production Design for Film and TV for the Masters course at Kingston University, and  is Course Director for BA Design Studies. Along side her teaching, she is a member of Kingston Artists Open Studios, 
specialising in Mixed media art works.
